Juventus dominated last season in Italian Serie A, taking the title by 17 points to runner-ups Roma. The team also has a lot to defend in European fields, after reaching the UEFA Champions League final in the spring. But the team has changed a lot, with big players like
Andrea Pirlo,
Arturo Vidal and
Carlos Tevez leaving the club. New signings include
Sami Khedira and
Mario Mandzukic, but the trophy may not come so cheap this season.
Roma's club legend
Francesco Totti is closing on 40 years, and the team should be looking for alternatives and subsequently new fan favorites to replace the aging star. How their new forward
Edin Džeko fits into this picture remains to be seen. Several Roma players also return from long injuries, and a good start to the season could bring the capital team confidence to fight for the Scudetto until the final rounds.
Football fans in Italy and beyond have been waiting for the Milanese giants
Internazionale and
AC Milan to regain their past glory. Of the two, Milan looks more ready with a lot spent in quality improvements over the summer. Failing to secure at least a Champions League position can be considered a failure for Milan. While Inter has been shopping too, they still lack width to increase tactical choices in their disposal. However, neither of the Milan clubs have international obligations during the season, and this will give them advantage over other primary candidates in top 5 of the league.
Overall, we expect this season to be more even in the very top of the league, and both Milan teams returning to European competitions next year.
